All the champagne is a sparkling wine, however, not every sparkling wine is champagne.
Let’s see: The French Champagne region is part of the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) system, in which there is strict quality control in the production of certain products, which can bear the name of the place that produced them. In the case of sparkling wines made in Champagne, they must follow a pattern of creation that, among other things, establishes which production method must be followed and which grapes can be used.
Following such control rules, the sparkling wines produced there will be called champagne. Outside that region, even if using the same process and the same grapes, the drink cannot receive such designation.
